How to fix the windmill in Outbound

The windmill blocks many early runs because the real puzzle is not just finding the building. You need to line up the ladders, reach the top floor, repair the cogwheel, then claim the blueprint reward.

Use this guide for the windmill repair route before you commit materials to the climb.
TL;DR

Climb inside the windmill, use the two levers to align the ladders, and reach the top floor. Bring 20x Scrap Metal to fix the cogwheel. Reward: the room opens so you can download the Mortar and Pestle blueprint.

Before You Fix the Windmill

Bring 20x Scrap Metal before committing to the climb. The windmill puzzle sends you through ladder positions and switches first, but the top-floor repair still needs metal. If you arrive empty, you will have to leave and come back.

Main objective

Reach the top floor, repair the damaged cogwheel, pull the Brake Lever, then return to the lower terminal.

Reward

The repair unlocks access to the terminal room where you can download the Mortar and Pestle blueprint.

Step-by-Step Windmill Fix

Enter the windmill and find the ladder levers.

Go inside and move up through the interior until you reach the controls for the ladder puzzle. The important objects here are the two levers, not a loose item on the ground.

Use the two levers to line up the ladder.

Adjust the ladder position until it lines up with the balcony-side route. If the ladder looks close but still does not connect, switch the levers again and check the angle from the balcony doorway.

Cross the upper objects and drop the next ladder.

Once the first ladder route is open, move across the upper boxes and ledges to reach the next switch. Use it to lower the next ladder so you can continue upward instead of restarting the climb.

Repair the top-floor cogwheel with 20x Scrap Metal.

At the top, interact with the damaged cogwheel mechanism and spend 20x Scrap Metal. This is the main material check for the windmill repair.

Pull the Brake Lever and return to the bottom terminal.

After repairing the cogwheel, pull the Brake Lever. Head back down to the lower terminal room and download the Mortar and Pestle blueprint.

Common Windmill Mistakes

Arriving without Scrap Metal

The climb can be solved first, but the repair still needs 20x Scrap Metal. Run a Signal Tower or scrap route before going back if you are short.

Looking for a loose cogwheel pickup

The key progress is the ladder route and top-floor repair interaction. Do not waste time sweeping the ground floor for a separate pickup.

Missing the second ladder switch

If you reach an upper section and cannot see a clean route forward, look for the switch that drops the next ladder before you backtrack.

What to Do After Fixing the Windmill

Download the Mortar and Pestle blueprint before leaving the area. After that, use the windmill as a route anchor on the Starting Level map: refill your Scrap Metal stock, craft Thread if needed, and plan the next driving loop before pushing farther away from your van.
